If you are interested in buying a Holland Lop as a pet, please research them before you buy.
Neah Bay Holland Lops are friendly and the more attention they get, the friendlier they become.
However, they can be easily injured so care must be taken to handle them carefully. Dropping them could cause a serious injury or death. Until rabbits are accustomed to being held, and are held in a manner that makes them feel secure, they are likely to kick which may cause scratching. Getting scratched often frightens children who react by dropping the rabbit which may result in injury to the bunny. Therefore, children should be carefully supervised when handling rabbits and I do not recommend a rabbit as a pet for a child under 3 years of age.
Carefully feeding your rabbit is very imortant. Please note that changes to a rabbits feed can result in sickness and death rapidly. With all sales we will provide a feed starter kit that consists of pellets, hay, and a chew stick. We highly recommend that if you choose to change feeds that you transition from our starter kit to the new feed slowly in order to prevent illness or death.
Additionally, young Holland Lops should not receive fresh greens until they are at least 6 months of age or they will likely get diarrhea and die. Treats such as a few Cheerios, about 1/2 inch of a banana, or a whole grain cracker can generally be provided to both young and mature rabbits safely (in very small amounts)
At Windy Acre Farm, Garden and Rabbitry we proudly feed Purina Show (pellets) and free choice Timothy Hay. We also provide apple tree sticks for our rabbits to chew on and our rabbits enjoy 1/2 inch of a banana daily.
Becky feeds Purina Fibre 3 Rabbit Chow.
We have found that the following feed stores in the Sequim, WA area carry Purina Fibre 3 Rabbit Chow and Purina Show: Leitz Farm Supply, The Co-op Farm and Garden, and Coastal Farm and Ranch.
If you are considering your first rabbit, please take time to research proper care, feed and supply needs prior to buying your rabbit.
Rabbits have delicate digestive systems and can quickly become sick and/or die if not properly fed.
They also need adequate shelter that is dry, free from drafts and extreme hot or cold temperatures.
There are numerous websites and books specific to the breed you are interested in that can guide your research.
If you decide that a Holland Lop, Mini Rex or American Fuzzy Lop is for you, we would be happy to supply your new pet.

If you are interested in showing your rabbit in the future, please shop for a rabbit with Show Potential. In order for a rabbit to place in a show, they must conform to the American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) Standard of Perfection for that breed. Therefore, it is important that you carefully evaluate a potential rabbit to ensure that it meets these standards.
Rabbits marketed as "Pets" generally do not meet the standards and are not a good choice for showing.
Rabbits selling with pedigrees available will make great pets and have potential for breeding stock or show potential in our opinion.
We will provide our opioin of potential faults for rabbits we sell with pedigrees, however each judge is different and may determine additional or other faults.
ARBA Sanctioned Show listings for the United States can be found on the ARBA website. ARBA sanctioned shows often have Youth and Specialty classes as well.

Did you know that rabbits can be "box trained"? It is actually fairly easy to train your rabbit to use a litter box! This will allow house rabbits to hop around the house without going potty everywhere.
If you decide to have a house rabbit, it is recommended that the rabbit has a cage to live in when you are not physically present with the bunny. This is because bunnies are nibblers, they like to "test" chew on pretty much anything. This can result in the bunny eating something that could make it sick or die, or it could injure itself by chewing on something like an electrical cord.
Since we are talking about chewing, it is very imortant that your bunny has appropriate chew toys or chew sticks.
A rabbit's teeth continuously grow throughout their lifetime. To keep teeth from getting too long, rabbits chew to keep them filed to the right length.
You can purchase rabbit chew toys, generally made of wood, or select branches from "rabbit safe" trees. Trees that are safe for rabbits to chew on can be found online. Windy Acre Rabbitry provides apple tree branches for our rabbits to chew on.
